Last week we had -30 degrees and now few plus degrees. You can walk the winter hiking route on the ice to Linnansaari, but stay on the marked route because there is still water under the snow on the ice in some parts. A large amount of snow on thin steel ice causes a fountain-like phenomenon on the ice, where water bubbles through the ground ice even if it is 45 degrees below zero. It is only when evenly thick frozen slush and water layer have throughout risen everywhere it forms solid ice, and then the entire skating route is possible to open. Now the skating route to Kielosaari has been opened (1 km/one way), after which there is half a meter of water on the ice. You can ski a 3,5 km on Oravi's forest track.
