The weather has changed again to colder, it is now -18 degrees and wind is 1-2 m/s. The skating route from Oravi to Linnansaari has been maintained several days, and now the first people have took kick sledges and went to the skating route. However, it is still not advisable to go on the route with skates, but to take a kick sledge, because the skating route has not yet been planed and is partly uneven and also between the Savonselkä lake hut and Issakka island you have to go on the route along the trail of the snowmobile for approx. 500m. On the winter hiking route marked with red sticks, you can ski or walk from Oravi to Linnansaari (5 km/way) or even to Järvisydän (18 km/way). Oravi's equipment rental and café-bar are open Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm.

Last week we had -30 degrees and now few plus degrees. You can walk the winter hiking route on the ice to Linnansaari, but stay on the marked route because there is still water under the snow on the ice in some parts. A large amount of snow on thin steel ice causes a fountain-like phenomenon on the ice, where water bubbles through the ground ice even if it is 45 degrees below zero. It is only when evenly thick frozen slush and water layer have throughout risen everywhere it forms solid ice, and then the entire skating route is possible to open. Now the skating route to Kielosaari has been opened (1 km/one way), after which there is half a meter of water on the ice. You can ski a 3,5 km on Oravi's forest track.

The winter hiking trail to Linnansaari is now in good condition for walking. Do not deviate from the marked route at all because elsewhere there is water and slush under the snow cover. We organize sleigh transportation to Linnansaari, where there is great snowshoeing terrain and 2-8 km of marked nature trails. You can order a round-trip sleigh ride, or a popular option is to take a sled to the island and walk back according to your own schedule. Now, during the full moon, you can walk on the ice well even after sunset :) Order a sleigh ride directly in the online store or from the sales service.
