    You can walk and ski the winter hiking route on the ice from Oravi to Linnansaari at Christmas, the route is marked with red sticks. Along the way, 2.5 km from Oravi, there is a lake hut on the ice, where you can warm up while looking at the lake view from the window. The firewood fee for the lake hut can be paid in our online store (3e/person or 7e/family) from the link below the text. After the snow fall, on Christmas Eve, Oravi's forest trail is opened and the traditional ski trail is laid out on the ice. The ice trail from Oravi to the lake house and from there to Linnansaari is approx. 5 km/way, and the forest trail in the village of Oravi is 3.5 km. There is a shed with firewood along the forest trail. The starting point of the winter hiking route is at the beach on Kesäkalliontie, but there are no parking spaces at the starting point, so leave your car in the parking lot of the village store (approx. 200m from the starting point). The starting point of Metsälatu is at the beginning of Oravintie. There are also no parking spaces at the starting point of the forest trail, you can leave your car in the parking lot of the village store (approx. 1 km from the starting point) or in the parking lot of Oravintie. Unfortunately, skating conditions are now impossible.

  • Safely on ice

    The marked ice route from Oravi to the lake hut in Savonselkä and from there to Linnansaari main island is the only safe and recommended route on the ice now (route is marked with red sticks). It is 2,5 km to the lake hut and 5 km to Linnansaari (one way). You can walk or ski on the route. We will inform you when we get the skating route open again. When visiting the lake hut, the firewood fee (3e/person or 7e/family) can be paid in our web shop.

    You can reach Linnansaari from Oravi by walking or skiing along the winter hiking trail on ice, we recommend a kick spark/sledge for the skating trail, because the trail cannot be leveled yet. At Savonselkä's hut, you can stop for a break and have your own snacks. Stay on the marked route!

  • The whole hiking route is now marked and the resting place (hut) on the ice is open.

    Today we were able to mark the entire sledge/hiking route from Oravi to Järvisydän. The ships might be driving until the end of December so you should always check the shipping situation with the waterways agency (Saimaa VTS) before crossing the channel! Today we also towed the hut to the same place as last winter. The hut is located about 2.5 km from Oravi and can be safely reached by walking or skiing along a marked route. So there are no channel crossings between Oravi and Linnansaari. You can find the link to the hut firewood fee here.
